AI²T   —   Automation & Industrial IT
Three Laboratories (see here) formed the AI²T, thus joining their competences in Java, OO, media, embedded systems, automation, measurement, control, robotics and electric vehicles.

Our institute

• handles a considerable share of the university's IT infrastructure   and
• manages the country-wide Mechatronics Club.
• It was and is part of many software, development and research projects  
• bringing the by far biggest relative amount of extern research money to the university.
• The project, most noticed worldwide is "SolarCar".
• ... and a lot more ...

Especially SolarCar, managed by Prof. Dr. F. Pautzke, involved big student's teams over years. This demonstrates the strong link between research development and teaching, that is one goal of AI²T. Besides that SolarCar was and is undoubtedly the "door opener" for our starting industrial activities in electro mobility for the Bochum region.
